Short description

Bionic Tape turns your phone into an 80s and 90s cassette player. On the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold, the fold becomes the mechanism: unfold to pick a tape from the shelf, fold it shut and press play. No ads, no tracking, no subscription.

Long description

Bionic Tape turns playlists and albums into cassettes. Each one sits on a shelf in its own case with its cover art. Drag a tape into the deck and it clicks into place. While it plays, the reels spin, the tape hisses softly and the keys have real travel and a satisfying click. The app is built for foldables. On the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold, the inner screen shows the shelf. Fold the phone shut and the outer screen becomes the cassette deck, and the tape starts rolling. Stand it up in tent mode and the cover becomes the label. On every other iPhone and Android phone, Bionic Tape works as a regular cassette player. On iPhone, Apple Music plays right inside the app. On Android, playlists come from YouTube Music. Your own music files work on both. There are SHUFFLE and REPEAT switches and skins from four decades, from 80s yellow to see-through plastic. Bionic Tape is a one-time purchase of $2.99, with no subscription, no ads and no tracking. It is made by Bedo Hamza at the HMZ.swiss workshop in Zurich, Switzerland. Many improvements came straight from community feedback on Reddit.
